El Zaragoza no optaba al título de Liga, como pone la descripción. Lo que sí optaba es a mantener el tercer puesto sobre el Valencia, que le habría dado la clasificación a la fase previa de la Champions. Finalmente, la RFEF prefirió dar la plaza directa a la Champions al Real Madrid, como vigente campeón, y relegó al Zaragoza a la UEFA, en una decisión polémica, en tanto que la UEFA seguramente habría otorgado al campeón una plaza igualmente.
