Information

Although Flamengo lost some key pieces from 1987 (like Andrade, Jorginho and Renato Gaúcho, the MVP of that year), the Rubronegro still featured some Brazilian and Flamengo legends like the Leonardo, Aldair, Zinho and Bebeto, who returned to Maracanã after a long period of injury plus the 1988 Summer Olympics, and Uruguayan legend Darío Pereyra, with the iconic Telê Santana as headcoach. Of course all the eyes were on the veteran Zico, who, after a 1987 of regularly playing without any major injuries, would start to suffer again in 1988 leading to his 1989 retirement. The fans knew that they needed to appreciate every match that the Galinho played because the end of his career was a little closer every day. The Criciúma, coached by Cruzeiro and Brazilian football legend Zé Carlos, was a hardworking team and the Tigre fans counted on the good Adilson Heleno, one of the future recipients of the 1988 Brazil First Division best midfield award (Bola de Prata), to surprise the home team. /////// Audio normalizes around 15min44s.
