This match marks the debut of Nunes for Flamengo. The Rubronegro struggled for a vast part of the 1970s to find a striker that could help Zico & Co. and, although Nunes wasn't as brilliant as Zico, Adílio, Tita or Júnior, he would prove in the golden era of Flamengo how deadly he was - being labelled as "O artilheiro das decisões" ("The Goalscorer of Finals") for his clutch performances. One interesting information is that Nunes was a junior member of Flamengo in the 1970s but was not called up to the professional team because was not considered good enough. He then shone in Santa Cruz in the 1970s, was in the final list to the 1978 WC but, due to an injury, was left out - Roberto "Dinamite" got the spot.
